The Arcadis Cardiff office was situated out of town and required updating to bring it in line with its Global Design Standards.
The Vision
Arcadis’s old office was lacklustre and failed to engage employees. Upon surveying its employees, it became clear that a modern, flexible workspace would be greatly beneficial. There was a strong preference to move to a City Centre location, which would offer convenient access to public transport, promoting sustainable travel and easy access to the city’s amenities and parks. Moreover, a City Centre location would support Arcadis’ new post-Covid hybrid working model. This model balances work-from-home arrangements with in-office collaboration, aligning with the company’s People First Values.
The Design
In line with Arcadis Global Design Standards, Claremont incorporated the brand’s standout orange and black colours whilst drawing inspiration from the Edwardian design elements found in the new location’s interior and common areas. This design approach seamlessly integrates heritage features, creating a modern space within a reimagined and reinvigorated building.
The office space is equipped with flexible furniture to ensure agility and adaptability. With 30% of desks being sit-stand models, the design meets contemporary ergonomic needs. The office also includes a variety of meeting rooms that accommodate 4 to 10 people, with larger meeting areas available by opening bi-folding walls, allowing for the hosting of larger town hall meetings.
Additionally, the design thoughtfully supports neurodiversity by incorporating various private and semi-private spaces, along with mindful considerations of acoustics and noise transmission. This creates an inclusive environment conducive to focus and well-being.
The Outcome
With a space that now supports Arcadis’s modern way of working and truly shining the spotlight on its People First Values, the Cardiff office is an engaging hub for all. With enhanced opportunities for team collaboration and community discussions, Arcadis employees can return to the workplace with a renewed sense of engagement and satisfaction.
The new office was delivered with robust change management, bringing two separate business entities together and was developed closely with feedback from our people to ensure that the space not only fulfils ours Global Design Standards but also meets the local needs, as closely as possible.
From the design, we foresee greater opportunities for team collaboration and office gatherings given the flexible townhall space that Claremont created, supported by the advanced AV system we have incorporated.
