How we added value
The Vision
1 New Park Square is the first of seven net zero carbon office buildings at Edinburgh Park. The new space required a design solution that worked with the building’s thermal mass cooling solution whist still being sympathetic to the structure and energy performance.
The new workspace also led to the opportunity of various Marsh and Mercer divisions being able to consolidate and co-locate under one roof. In turn, it’s key to ensure the space would work for all its colleagues, ensuring that the different teams can come together and collaborate stronger than before.
The Design
Claremont have had the privilege of working closely with Marsh McLennan for over 15 years. With a greater understanding of the business, and its working patterns, Claremont were best equipped to design a solution that supports all workstyles within the group, regardless of which pillar its teams sit in, under the wider Marsh McLennan brand.
Based on an occupancy of 10:6, the office is the perfect blend of client facing areas and workspace. Activity based settings are also incorporated throughout the floorplate allowing for colleagues to break away from their desks and freely collaborate on projects.
To foster a sense of belonging, the design also features nods to the local surroundings and culture of Edinburgh, reflected in the carefully selected colours and finishes throughout the space.
The Outcome
Marsh McLennan Edinburgh, now have the ideal space for all its Edinburgh teams to come together. The space sits perfectly within the beauty of this sustainable building, while the layout and solutions within the space provides its users with choice, supporting all daily activities.
I definitely think it’s encouraged people to come back to the office. We see the place full on a weekly basis. I think prior to moving I had more of a hybrid approach to work, since we moved, I’ve been in the office every day. Spending time with colleagues and in the different areas, it’s definitely changed my attendance in the office, and I love it.
