The big idea
Shoosmiths, a leading national law firm, made the strategic decision to relocate their Edinburgh office from Saltire Court to Haymarket, with the goal of creating a true Destination Office that embodies their brand, culture, and status. The new Grade A office space in 1 Haymarket Square presented an opportunity to build upon their Smart Working policy, which has been developed in partnership with Claremont over the past 15 years, supporting true Agile Working.
Shoosmiths experienced significant expansion in the Scottish Market and needed a space that reflected their growth ambitions. The Grade A office space at 1 Haymarket Square provided a prestigious position within the city, accommodating 120 colleagues and enabling a growing Edinburgh-based workforce while fostering a true Agile Working culture.
Nailing the brief
Claremont were entrusted with developing this new space, following the relocation from Saltire Court. The vision was to provide an exciting space for Shoosmiths clients and colleagues whilst supporting Hybrid working with a space which allowed for collaborative and quiet working.
The new Workplace had to cater equitably to both colleagues and clients, offering a range of amenities in line with the concept of a Destination Office.
The final result
Claremont has successfully designed and delivered a new space for Shoosmiths to call home, in 1 Haymarket, Edinburgh. The space was designed with true flexibility and agility at heart, whilst ensuring an industry-leading Client experience.
The new office takes advantage of the natural light on offer from the design of the building, ensuring that the workplace feels a healthy and motivating experience for all. The design also pays homage to the unique location and some of the rich-history that Edinburgh has to offer, including playful references to iconic characters such as the Beano and some of Edinburgh’s exceptional landmarks.
Designed with the user at heart, the journey within the space starts with a large and open plan reception come client area, which is packed with the Shoosmiths brand and has been created to be a multifunctional space offering the ability for Shoosmiths to host client events. From here the journey continues, either to the curved client suite inclusive of Café space serving as a key Destination for clients, or through to the open plan workplace, meeting suite and Coffee Shop spaces for Shoosmiths colleagues to enjoy.
The space thoughtfully incorporates all the key work settings from the Destination Office principle, including tech-rich Co-working bureau spaces to bring colleagues together, Academy spaces to support learning and development, a Coffee Shop setting to encourage socialisation and enhance wellbeing and open plan Forum spaces to enable the workforce to come together as one.
The new office serves as a true Destination Office, where Shoosmiths colleagues can collaborate, socialise, and grow professionally. The design emphasises the importance of human-centric work environments, aligning with the firm’s strategic objectives and goals.
