This latest report covers some of our thinking about future trends in the workplace, and we hope it stimulates some thoughts and ideas within your own organisation.

It is clear that the acceptance of a greater degree of flexibility has, understandably, led organisations to consider reducing their office footprint. Expensive city center head office locations start to become far less attractive, especially when considering the challenges regarding moving people around and more specifically up and down high-rise multi-occupancy buildings. The resurgence of a hub, spoke and cluster model is evident as companies realise just how much a lengthy daily commute adds to the stress of balancing the work-life paradigm. Of course this is particularly the case with the anxiety around travelling on public transport.

As workplace professionals its easy for us to champion the return of the office but despite the positive elements of working from home, the evidence tells us that people are missing the interaction with their colleagues and virtual contact is simply not the same.

The ability to spend part of the working week connecting with colleagues, clients and collaborators in a thoughtfully designed space and then enjoy the dynamic environment that a city offers, is likely to be a compelling reason to physically come to work –for part of the week at least

We believe a hybrid work style is here to stay.

To create a meaningful workplace that delivers value for the business itself and the people who work there, the office will need to become a Destination in itself and not simply a place full of desks.

We know that health and wellbeing will be important considerations for all workplaces, but brand values and culture will remain an essential element that fosters team cohesion and trust. The destination office will be a beacon of the organisation, it might contain a combination of library, gallery, exhibition space, university, town hall, department store and coffee shop and provide co-working space supporting this hybrid approach to the world of work. Our design approach is based on putting people at the heart of the solution, making work an enjoyable and safe experience for all.
