The vision

Having completed four projects in twelve months across the UK, Softcat’s latest office project took us across the Irish Sea to Dublin. Having moved from a smaller out of town space, Softcat’s new Dublin home brings them into the city centre to Scotch House, overlooking the River Liffey and within walking distance of many of the city’s iconic landmarks.

The design

Visitors are welcomed into a brand-centric reception area at the heart of the office, where a ceiling feature inspired by the Samuel Beckett Bridge introduces a subtle sense of movement and architectural character to the space. Inspired by the way the River Liffey connects the city, the reception area acts as the connection between the workspace and the breakout area, helping to create a continuous flow from one end of the office to the other.

The main workspace is designed for flexibility and energy. It’s an open-plan environment that offers a mix of work settings to suit every need: touchdown tables for quick collaboration, soundproof pods for confidential calls, and a series of meeting rooms. There’s also a quiet area for those who need a calm space to focus. The meeting rooms help create a strong sense of local identity, tying the space to Dublin’s rich heritage. Each room is named after an iconic figure from the city – Arthur Guinness, Molly Malone, Oscar Wilde, Luke Kelly, and Samuel Beckett. Their presence is felt within the rooms too, with portraits brought to life through striking dot-pixel artwork, adding a distinctive and creative touch to the environment and helping the team feel at home.

The breakout space draws inspiration from Dublin’s Icon Factory and Icon Walk, blending the city’s vibrant popular culture with its rich industrial heritage while maintaining Softcat’s distinctive brand and colours throughout. The area is the perfect space for the Softcat team to take a break from their desks, featuring a modern kitchen, a dedicated games area, soft seating, and a pool table, complemented by stunning views of the river and city. Artwork celebrating Dublin’s legendary musicians adds a creative touch, making the space both functional and culturally immersive.

The end result

Completed over a 12-week programme, the finished space is a vibrant office that captures the energy of the city and brings the Softcat brand to life, supporting their growth in Dublin and ongoing expansion.
