We’re delighted to share that our recent work on Softcat’s London office achieved a SKA Gold rating! The 38,000 sq ft space is not only a stunning Destination Office but also another example of our continued commitment to sustainability.
Softcat’s SKA Gold journey
To achieve SKA Gold on the London project, we implemented a comprehensive series of sustainable measures throughout the project. We ensured positive engagement with the client and building management to fully consider the impact of the work both prior to commencement and throughout the entirety of the project and as a result of this we achieved an ‘excellent’ considerate constructors score.
From a design perspective material selection was carefully considered, prioritising responsibility and reuse, all of which contributed to our final rating.
The design team worked closely with the M&E team to ensure the space was as efficient as possible, with technological upgrades to M&E systems, lighting, and plumbing, including the installation of flow restrictors on taps to reduce water consumption.
Waste management plans were put in place from the outset, ensuring responsible disposal and recycling practices. Where possible we reused some of the original flooring and retained existing mechanical systems, furniture, and fittings where possible, such as raised access flooring tiles and office furniture sourced from other sites.
CO₂ monitors were installed to support air quality management, and new insulation was added to improve energy performance.
The benefits of a SKA rating
Achieving a SKA Gold rating means more than just ticking boxes, it demonstrates a desire for creating a sustainable, healthy, and efficient office space that works for your whole team. It also goes a long way in achieving various goals for a client, such as meeting their ESG and CSR objectives, by encouraging smarter use of materials, energy-efficient systems, and sustainable fit-out practices that reduce operational costs.
It can also help boost employee wellbeing and productivity with features like good ventilation, plenty of natural light, responsible material choices, and effective noise control, all of which create a healthier and more efficient workplace. Furthermore, a good SKA rating is a great way for your business to stand out from the crowd especially in competitive markets.
Designing for a sustainable future
