The big idea

Arcadis were looking to create a dynamic and flexible environment for its teams as they came together under one roof. Bringing two offices together, even within the same business, can cause uncertainty among team members. Creating a new office space can hugely benefit colleagues in this transition as it eliminates any territorial behaviours as space becomes neutral to all.

Arcadis has a Global Design Strategy which provides strong support to its colleagues when consolidating offices. This strategy maintains a consistent theme throughout its offices, with subtle nods to local culture or architecture, offering a sense of familiarity and belonging regardless of the workspace.

Nailing the brief

When entering Arcadis’ new workspace you are immediately greeted into a space which replicates the streets and building materials throughout the city of York, creating a sense of place and continuity. The soft palate takes influence from local sandstone and muted greys, offering a calming sense of place as you enter. The iconic Arcadis orange has also been muted to match the senses without losing the recognition of the brand.

Dedicated rooms for focus work and collaborative engagement have been pleased throughout the scheme ensuring that employees have zones tailored to different work needs. Along side these spaces, colleagues can also find larger rooms with AV to support hybrid meetings within team members or clients.

The final result

The Arcadis York teams now have a single, central workplace to call home. This consolidation supports Arcadis’s sustainability commitments by reducing space usage, while also aligning with the company’s  People First values. The new workspace supports better collaboration and meets the needs for flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
